Make good use of your position, FCT chief urges office holders

The Ona of Abaji and Chairman of the FCT Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, has charged public office holders to use their positions to better humanity during their time in service.

The monarch gave the advice at the 30th anniversary prayers for the first Director of Education in the FCT Administration (FCTA), Malam Adamu Shuaibu.

He noted that the deceased left behind an enduring legacy that continued to define the territory’s education sector.

The monarch highlighted that during his tenure, the late Shuaibu established the first secondary school in Abaji and several others across the FCT.

He added that the late director was instrumental in encouraging parents throughout the territory to prioritise their children’s education.

He further said the late Shuaibu also ensured that many indigenous people were gainfully employed in the FCT Civil Service.

He prayed to God to continue granting the deceased eternal peace.

Also speaking, a former INEC Commissioner for Plateau State, Alhaji Hussaini Halilu Pai, recalled his experience working closely with the pioneer director.

He prayed to Allah to forgive his shortcomings and urged the family to emulate the virtues and good deeds of their late father.

Hajiya Farida Suleiman Odangi, said, “It is a moment that humbles me, 30 years after the demise of our dear father. He was a hero and a mentor to many, and a teacher to even more,’’ adding that although she was only 14 when her father passed away, the memories and guidance he provided continued to shape her life.

Abuja Metro recalls that the late Adamu Shuaibu, a native of Abaji Area Council, contested for the position of FCT Mayor in 1992 on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC). The election was subsequently annulled by the then Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
