The newly elected national treasurer of the association and state coordinator of Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Opara Stella, made the call while speaking with Daily Trust in Owerri recently.
She said that the feat would only be achieved if all farmers would identify with the association and engage in the production of banana and plantain to ensure sufficiency of the commodity.
Mrs. Opara said that identifying with the association would also offer ample opportunities for the jobless youths in the society.
While commending the free and fair manner of the election of the new executives of the association, she promised to use her position to create international market and also bring international investors to the zone.
The national treasurer said that with the other national officers from the South East zone, she would work together with them to carry everybody along in making the zone a pilot zone for banana and plantain production.
She said already, the training of farmers in the state on how to produce both banana and plantain suckers has commenced, while assuring that the association would soon embark on capacity building and awareness creation to enable farmers to be equipped with knowledge.
Opara promised to work with the state government to ensure larger production of the commodity in the state, adding that already, government has made an official request for suckers from the association.
