The zonal comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Sadiq Shehuri, has urged retirees never to be despondent but be more active in order to remain relevant.

He also called on employers to always recognise and reward conscientious personnel who did not dent their service records but were very hard working.

He stated this at the Nigerian Immigration Service Cross River State Command, Calabar where he advised and congratulated two senior personnel of the service, Ime U. Nta and Festus Ayelomi, who proceeded on pre-retirement leave.

He said such reward would make the retirees happy that their labour was not in vain and also encourage others still in service to work honestly and diligently with the hope of reward and recognition.

He said life in retirement afforded one good opportunity in life to reflect over past services and chart a new course of life that would impact positively on the generality of the society.

The Comptroller of NIS in the state, Barrister Okey Ezugwu, advised Nigerian workers not to see retirement from service as the end of life but another phase of life.

Ezugwu said the fear of retirement has made many potential retirees to develop many psychological problems even whilst in service.

Speaking, Ime Nta thanked NIS and dedicated his meritorious service award to God and President Muhammadu Buhari for doing what he said had become the hallmark of his family, fighting corruption.
