The appointment of the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar II, as chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH, Ogbomosho, by the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has been described as a demonstration of national unity.
Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela, who gave the commendation in a message, said that the gesture was worthy of emulation by other political leaders in the country.
“At times like this, what we need is bridge builders across the dividing rivers of ethnicity, religious differences and sectional bigotry. Engineer Seyi Makinde has indeed broken a barrier,” Tela said.
He explained that the appointment coming from the South West to the North-East of the country was a welcome development because “it is a sign that irrespective of ethno-religious differences, the country remains one indivisible entity.”
