The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) criticism of Governor Seyi Makinde’s statement that the 2027 general elections would be a contest between the APC and the people of Nigeria.

The PDP argues that the scathing reaction by the APC indicated the ruling party’s fear of public opinion.

In a statement by the acting Publicity Secretary, Michael Ogunsina, PDP questioned why APC is afraid to face voters.

“Democracy is about politicians meeting the people at the polls. A party that serves the people should welcome such comparisons. But the APC, having failed, is running scared,” he stated.

The PDP criticised the APC’s response as unnecessary and misdirected, asserting that if the APC was performing well, it wouldn’t view Governor Makinde’s remarks as an attack, adding that  Nigerians invested their hopes in the APC during the 2023 elections, only to face worsening conditions under its leadership.

Regarding Makinde’s ambitions for 2027, the PDP insisted he is focused on fulfilling his promises to Oyo State residents, stating that he is not swayed by speculation.

The party urged the APC to reflect on its failures and engage with the public on its policies rather than making baseless accusations.
