Information Minister Labaran Maku says he will resign on October 20 to pursue his gubernatorial ambition in Nasarawa State.
The minister stated this today during a special thanksgiving service witnessed by State House journalists at Catholic Diocese of Lafia, St. Patrick’s Parish, Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
Maku also said that none of the ministers seeking elective positions in 2015 would stay longer than October 20 in Jonathan’s cabinet.
“Just thank God for me, just pray for me because by next week, October 20, anyone in the cabinet that wants to contest election must step down because the time has come for us to do that.
“It’s time to make my interest known. By the grace of God, I’ll sacrifice the comfort of a minister to go into the wilderness. I want to sacrifice the comfort of the high office that I’m in now to join my people in the wilderness in Nasarawa State to fight for peace and justice in this state,” he said.
Maku who used the occasion to announce a N7.6m donation from his family and friends for the Cathedral in Lafia, said all he had achieved since 1999 was by God’s grace.
He said he rose from grass to grace through God’s favour as he was born to peasant farmers who, he said, did not even record his date of birth in a small village.
Also expected to quit Jonathan’s cabinet alongside Maku because of their governorship ambitions are FCT Minister Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State), Labour Minister Emeka Wogu (Abia), Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (Kebbi), Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Minister of State for Trade and Investment Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Minister of State for Defence Musiliu Obanikoro (Lagos).
