Makurdi master plan coming – Lands commissioner

State Commissioner for Lands and Survey John Tondo made the disclosure during a talk with journalists recently in Makurdi.
“In a short while, Makurdi will have a comprehensive master plan. What we have at the moment are mini master plans of respective districts that have been planned which have not been fused together because of lack of adequate information in the already existing developed part of Makurdi,” he said.
Tondo explained that the project had delayed over the years because previous administrations paid little attention to creating a master plan for the city.
“And that is why we embarked on the mega layouts project. In all the areas that we’ve designated as mega layouts, we’ve also developed mini master plans for them.
“For those areas, we have information regarding each parcel of land as recommended by the planning regulations.
“Now, what we’re doing under the circumstance is to harmonise all those mini plans and put them together in a common plan,” Tondo explained.
To this end, the commissioner noted that the state government has gone into Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement with a survey firm to articulate all the existing properties in Makurdi.
“I’m talking of the whole of North Bank, Wurukum, High Level, Low Level, Wadata, Old GRA, and New GRA.
“The survey of these areas is going to give rise to the master plan because we will now harmonise the mini plans with that of the mega layouts that we’ve also executed which will form a comprehensive master plan,” he maintained.
