The minister, while addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja, yesterday, to commence activities for WED with the theme: “Raise your voice, not the sea level,” called on the media to inform the public about critical issues affecting the environment.
According to her, the United Nation Organisation (UNO) has recognised the importance of preserving the environment and declared 5th of June as WED.
She expressed her hope that the media will play critical roles in drawing national and global attention to the smaller issues of profound environmental consequences.
She said: “I urge all Nigerians to deploy and make extensive use of the social media to create the desired awareness on critical challenges of the environment, especially the need to refrain from activities that will lead to ozone layer depletion, melting of the arctic region, increased rainfall and raising sea level.”
