Civil Society-Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, (CS-SUNN), a coalition of nongovernmental organizations pushing for nutritional security in Nigeria, has raised the alarm over the rising malnutrition, saying it portends a significant public health problem.
Executive Secretary, CS-SUNN, Sunday Okoronkwo, said this in Abuja yesterday at a media roundtable tagged ‘Nigeria’s Nutrition Commitment: Moving from Pledges to Action’. He said Nigeria was faced with a double burden of malnutrition as the prevalence of under-nutrition was 11 per cent; and that of overweight/obesity, 25 per cent.
High cost of living takes toll on Nigerians
He called for strengthened governance for nutrition at national and subnational levels, adding that “there’s a need to help influence political party manifestos to reflect on nutrition ahead of the 2023 general elections.”
