Man, 20, arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs to inmates at Kano court From Ahmad Datti, Kano

A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Kabir Tishama of Hotoro, Kano, has been arrested by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs to inmates at the Kano High Court premises.
The suspect was apprehended by NCoS officers from the Goron Dutse Custodial Centre while inmates were being escorted to their respective court hearings.

Tishama was found to have concealed a substance suspected to be Indian hemp inside a loaf of bread, which he intended to pass to an inmate during proceedings.

The Public Relations Officer of the NCoS Kano Command, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, said the Controller of Corrections, Ado Inuwa, has ordered the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for thorough investigation and prosecution.

Inuwa commended the Officer-in-Charge of Goron Dutse, ACC Kafilu Abdullahi, and the personnel involved for their professionalism and alertness in preventing the infiltration of illicit substances into custodial centers.
This arrest follows a similar incident on January 7th, when two suspects, Usman Khalid and Bello Musa Ahmed, were arrested for attempting to smuggle cannabis sativa to inmates at the Nomansland Magistrate Court.
The Service reiterated its resolve to maintain safe, secure, and drug-free custodial environments.
It called on residents, particularly parents and guardians, to caution their wards against engaging in criminal activities.

The NCoS reaffirmed its mandate of reforming, rehabilitating, and reintegrating offenders into society, noting that these recent successes are part of its broader commitment to curbing criminality within custodial facilities.
