A 20-year-old man accused by the police of strangling his mother to death has been ordered to be remanded in prison by an FCT High Court.

Police Prosecutor, Shuaibu Labaran, told the court that the defendant, Aliyu Ndalolo, a resident of Light Well Estate, Utako District in Abuja, on June 13, 2016, stabbed his mother, Maryam Ndalolo, with a kitchen knife and then strangled her to death.

He added that Aliyu subsequently hid the corpse in a bag and dumped it at a refuse site at Jabi area, which is in the neighbourhood of Utako. He said the corpse was discovered at the refuse site.

The offence, said to be contrary to Section 221(b) of the Penal Code, is punishable with death.

Aliyu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

The Judge, Justice Idris Kutigi, ordered that he should be remanded at the Kuje prison, and adjourned the case to April 30, for hearing.
