Man, 22, commits suicide in Anambra

A 22 -year-old man in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State is reported to have committed suicide by hanging himself from a mango tree in the family’s compound.

According to a family source, the deceased, Chika Alex-Chukwuezie of Umuanasa clan, Ubaekwem community, until his death was known to be an active youth member in the Umuezekwe political ward of Ihiala LGA.

The source said this is not the first suicide incident recorded in the family.

The family source also said the deceased, who was unemployed, completed his Senior Secondary School recently with the hope of going into business.

It was reliably gathered that the deceased’s uncle died at the-same age, decades back and the family had subjected themselves to spiritual cleansing to avert re-occurrence of the unfortunate incident in the family.

It was also gathered that the body of the deceased was thrown into a thick forest according to community traditional rights.

The spokesman of the police in the state, SP Haruna Muhammed, while confirming the incident, said police have commenced investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
