An Ebonyi State Magistrate Court has remanded a 23-year-old man, Chibuzor Igwe, over his alleged involvement in armed robbery and attempted murder in the state.

Igwe, it was alleged, robbed one Prescious Omaka, of her phone, while armed with a locally made pistol.

He also allegedly attempted to kill one Abuchi Rock by firing a gunshot at him, which hit him in the leg.

It was further gathered that Igwe commmitted offences at Igbara village, in the Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state, on February 21.

He was arraigned before the court on three-count charge bothering on armed robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearm on Wednesday.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Chinedu Mbam, told the court that the offenses were punishable under sections 516A (a), 402 and 320 of the Criminal Code Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

The accused person was, however not represented in court by a lawyer and no bail application was made on his behalf.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs Nnenna Onuoha, said the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter and, therefore, directed that the accused person be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while his case file should be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions, for necessary legal decision.

The matter was adjourned to March 30.
