A 26-year-old man on Monday pleaded guilty before a Federal High Court in Ibadan to charges of trafficking 217g of cannabis sativa, also known as Indian hemp.
The defendant, Ridwan Animasaun, is being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a one-count charge bordering on drug trafficking.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Following his plea, the trial judge, Justice Nkeonye Maha, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Agodi Correctional Centre, pending review of facts, and adjourned the matter until January 26, 2026.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs. Rachael Ige, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 24 at the Sawmill area of Moniya in Ibadan. (NAN)
She alleged that operatives of the NDLEA in Ibadan got tip-offs from concerned residents that the defendant was involved in drug peddling.
She alleged that the defendant was consequently arrested for being in possession of the banned substance weighing 217g.
The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation 2004. (NAN)
