A 27-year-old man, Olajide Afoape, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court for alleged impersonation.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the court yesterday that Afoape, who is standing trial on a two-count charge of impersonation and fraud, committed the offence on November 1, 2019 at
about 8pm in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, by parading himself round town as a member of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Okunade also told the court that the defendant “raided one medicine store and fraudulently obtained the sum of N3,000 from one Mr Abiodun Ekundayo.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Afoape’s counsel, Mr Michael Ogunsakin, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump it.
The chief magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted Afoape bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till December 2, 2019 for hearing.
