Man, 27, docked over theft

A 27-year-old man, Gbenga Popoola, has been docked before an Ado-Ekiti magistrate court for alleged theft.

Popoola, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olubu Apata, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 12, 2020  at Government Girls College, Ilawe-Ekiti.

Apata alleged that Gbenga stole five mattresses, one pillow case and two bed sheets valued at N45,000, property of Ekiti State Ministry of Education.

The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

Popoola pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His counsel, Mr Tope Salami, urged the court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum, and  adjourned the case till February 25, 2020 for hearing.
