An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court in Karu on Monday sentenced one Musa Suleiman, 27, to seven months’ imprisonment for trespassing on and dumping refuse in a church premises.
Suleiman, a resident of Karu was convicted on a five-count charge of criminal trespass, assault, mischief, public nuisance and criminal intimidation.
The judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, however, gave the accused an option of N22,000 fine and ordered him to pay N8,000 to the complainant as compensation.
Suleiman had pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
The prosecutor, Mr Adeyemi Adeyanju, told the court that one Abraham Ebi of CBN Junction, Karu, reported the matter to the Karu Police Station on Sept. 8.
Adeyanju said the convict was in the habit of trespassing on and dumping refuse in the plot of land belonging to Power Family Church, Karu, where the complainant worshipped.
He said that the complainant warned him to desist from the act but the convict ignored the warning, assaulted him and tore his clothes which was valued at N12,000.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 198, 265, 327, 348, and 397 of the penal code. (NAN)
