Man, 28, accused of killing wife’s friend, granted bail

A 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Isah, charged with murder, was yesterday brought before an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court in Lagos.

The defendant had appeared on a count charge of murder.

The police prosecutor, Jimah Iseghede, said the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 5, at 10.45pm at No. 15, Olaniyi St., Julie Estate, Oregun.

He alleged that Isah had murdered a woman, Florence Obinali, 50, by using a plank to hit her on her head, resulting to her death.

“The deceased had gone to pay the debt she owed the defendant’s wife late in the night but instead of leaving immediately she stayed to have a `tete-a-tete’ with the wife of the defendant.

“In anger, Isah picked up a plank with which he used to chase his wife inside and the deceased away but in the process, she fell and died as a result of the injuries she sustained,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate, Mrs A. Kusanu, granted the defendant N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and ordered that their addresses must be verified.

The case was adjourned until Nov. 14 for mention. (NAN)
