A 28-year-old male resident of Tamburawa village of Dawakin Kudu local government area of Kano state has admitted deflowering a six-year-old daughter of his neighbour (name withheld).
The accused, Nazifi Abdulkarim was dragged to Kano state Magistrate Court sitting at No Man’s Land by father of the girl, Hassan Gambo of the same address who said the accused had defiled his daughter.
Police First Information Report (FIR) read to the accused person in the court stated that, the accused person had on February 7 lured the girl into his room under the pretence of sending her on errand, but when they reached his room he forcefully had her carnal knowledge.
The court heard that after the incident, the girl suffered injuries on her private part and was rushed to Dawakin Kudu General Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
The accused pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of rape, an offense that contradicted Section 283 of the Penal Code Law.
Police prosecuting officer, Anthony Edward told the court that the offense is capital in nature, and the court lacks the jurisdiction to try the accused.
He therefore, applied for another date for mention, pending legal advice from the state Ministry of Justice.
Presiding Judge, Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Khaleel Mahmoud granted the application and adjourned the case to March 23. He ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
