Ogun police command, yesterday, confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man, one  Olawoyin Segun, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in the state.

It was gathered that the suspect’s arrest followed a report by the victim at Ibafo police station.

The victim reportedly complained that the 30-year-old man had visited their house and demanded to see her parents.

She reportedly said the suspect having realized that her parents have gone to church, grabbed her and had carnal knowledge of her.

The victim was also reported to have said that despite biting the suspect in an attempt to escape the alleged rape, he (suspect) had his way.

The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement on Sunday said following a receipt of the report, the DPO Ibafo division, Abiodun Ayinde detailed his detectives to the scene and promptly arrested the suspect.

“On interrogation, the suspect, who confessed being a friend to the family of the victim, claimed not to know what came over him that made him to do such thing to the girl who always sees him as her brother,” the statement said.

Oyeyemi further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the command’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution.
