The police in Ogun State have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old girl in the state.

The suspect, Olabowale Samuel, was arrested following a report by the father of the victim, at Sagamu police station.

A statement by the police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, quoted the father to have reported that he came back from work and discovered blood stain on the underwear of the victim.

Oyeyemi quoted the complainant to have said that the victim informed him that it was the suspect, who lives in the next building, that lured her into his room and sexually abused her.

He added that the victim was in the care of another neighbour in the house, who did not know when the suspect lured her to his house.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. The victim has been taken to the General Hospital for treatment,” the statement said.

Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
