A 34-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Edo State for allegedly killing his younger brother in Egba area of Benin, the state capital.

Omorodion Sampson was alleged to have had an altercation with his brother, identified as Imuetiyan Omorodion, during which he stabbed him to death and was arrested on October 7.

Sampson was among 72 suspected criminals arrested for cultism, armed robbery and production of fake hot drinks.

Addressing journalists in Benin, yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, said the deceased, aged 27, was stabbed twice in the neck with a knife by his brother.

Kokumo also stated that 58 cult members arrested were linked to the killing of eight persons in different locations in the state.

“There was heightened criminal activity in the state through cultism by rival cult groups, the Black Axe, Eiye, Black Mafians and Vikings within the period 11th to 14th October, 2018, which led to the death of eight persons,” he said.

Kokumo further disclosed that the command apprehended two persons, identified as Augustine Temile and Solomon Holly, for allegedly kidnapping one Ngozi Mba in the Ugbowo area of Benin metropolis.

Also paraded was a 35-year-old man, Chizoba Okafor, from Enugu State who was arrested for alleged production and sale of fake drinks in the Upper Mission area of Benin.

The suspect, who operates a bar in Benin, said he was into the business of faking drinks in order to raise money for the upkeep of his wife and children.

“I was arrested for faking hot drinks. I usually follow the formula written on the drink label. I am into the business to earn a living because I cannot carry gun for robbery. Nobody has come to complain of any problem after taking the drink and I used to drink it myself,” he said.
