Luck, yesterday, ran out for a 34-year-old serial thief, identified as Johnson Alabi, following his arrest for stealing goats at the Isinigbo community in Akure, Ondo State.

Daily Trust gathered that Alabi was caught with seven stolen goats by the vigilant youths of the community, who had been complaining about their missing livestock.

Several witnesses’ accounts revealed that the suspect was nabbed after he had succeeded in killing the stolen goats in the community.

One of the witnesses, Banjo Omolayo, told Daily Trust that the suspect, a member of a syndicate, which specialised in stealing livestock, was nabbed while trying to put the stolen goats inside a sack.

“It was at the point of putting them in a sack, that one of the youths in the community saw him and raised the alarm and others rushed out.

“In the past few weeks, there had been repeated complaints from residents in the remote area over their missing livestock.”

Another member of the community who did not want his name in print told our reporter that the gang always operated at midnight.

He said the suspects were in the criminal habit of selling the goats at cheaper rates to their customers, who resold the butchered goats at various markets.

“We discovered that many of the goats always disappeared whenever they reached a mature stage, but now we caught those perpetrating the crime,” he said.

The suspect was handed over to the men of the Amotekun Corps.

Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of the corps in Ondo, could not be reached, but a senior officer who confirmed the arrest said the suspect would be charged in court.
