A 35-year-old man, Richard Adebayo, who allegedly defrauded a multinational firm, Limited and Wood Receipt Company, of N9.9 million has been arraigned before an Akure magistrate court, Ondo State.
Adebayo is standing trial on a three-count charge of unlawful conversion, fraud and forgery. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Uloh Goodluck Okonkwo, told the court yesterday that he needed more time to file for diligent prosecution and requested for a short adjournment to enable the police carry out further investigation on the matter.
The defendant’s lawyer, Mr P. O. Ujah, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
Ujah added that Adebayo’s family members were ready to settle out of court and appealed for a short date to enable the two parties reach an agreement.
The magistrate, Tope Aladejana, granted the defendant bail in the sumof N2 million, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till July 20, 2020 for hearing.
