Man, 35, docked over attempted murder

A 35-year-old man, Ajibola Omolayo, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court over attempted murder.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, informed the court yesterday that Omolayo committed the offence on October 31, 2019 in Ilasa-Ekiti, Ekiti State, by attempting to murder one Omowaye Omojola.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant had been entering the complainant’s farm to harvest fruits, and had been warned many times by the rightful owner to stop the act.

Leranmo said Omolayo laid an ambush for Omojola and shot him from behind with a locally made gun, adding that the complainant did not die but was seriously wounded.

The plea of the defendant was not taken.

The chief magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in the like sum, and adjourned the case till December 12, 2019  for mention.
