Man, 35, faces trial over threat of violence

A 35-year-old Sola Solomon, who allegedly threatened to cause violence and unrest in a community on Friday, appeared at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, a resident of Ikingbinsin Zone 1, Ado-Ekiti, is facing a two-count charge of threat of violence and assault.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, who presided over the case, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court with a valid identification card.

The prosecutor, Insp Monica Ikebuilo, noted that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 26 at 9.30 p.m. at Ikingbinsin Zone 1, Ado-Ekiti.

Ikebuilo said that Solomon threatened violence and caused unrest in the community by holding a broken bottle and a spade to threaten the community members, especially one Mr Adebayo Temitope.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant assaulted both Sunday Awoniyi and John Ogungbamide by boxing them.

Ikebuilo said the offences contravened Section 86 of the Criminal Code Cap C16, Vol.1, Law of Ekiti State Nigeria 2012, and Section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol. 1, Law of Ekiti State Nigeria, 2012.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Oct. 17. (NAN)
