Man, 42, allegedly beats wife to death over N5,000

A 42-year-old man, Ejiro Patrick, on Wednesday allegedly beat his wife to death in Tyomu community, an outskirt settlement of Makurdi town in Benue State.

Witnesses said that Patrick, who hail from Delta State, engaged his wife in a quarrel over suspicion that she did not completely remit the entire N5,000 derived from some sold family items.

Patrick, according to the witnesses, in a fit of anger descended on his wife at the riverside with heavy punches until she passed out.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the police for Benue Command, DSP Catherine Anene, said the 42-year-old fisherman has been apprehended and currently in police custody.

Anene added that while the suspect hails from Delta state, the deceased was an indigene of Benue State, stressing that the reason for the violence which ended up at the river side was because the wife sold some items for the family and did not remit N5000.

“Mr Ejiro Patrick of Km14 Tyomu, Gboko road beatup his wife to a state of coma, victim was rushed to BSU teaching hospital but was confirmed dead.

“Victim was also seen bleeding from the nostrils. Suspect is in police custody. Investigation is still in progress. She was confirmed dead at BSUTH. Her corpse was deposited at the morgue,” the police spokesperson said.
