Man, 45, nabbed over defilement of minor

The Gombe State Police Command says it has arrested a 45-year-old man residing in Bamusa quarters of Gombe metropolis over alleged rape of an 8-year-old girl.

A press statement issued at the weekend by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Obed Mary Malum, said police preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, one Umar Garba, lured the girl (name withheld) on her way back from school and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

Malum said the suspect has already been charged to court for prosecution.

The statement also said that Pantami Police Division had also arrested one Nicholas Mbah, 21, of Bolari quarters of Gombe metropolis over alleged house breaking, theft and impersonation.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly broke into the house of one Sani Dauda of New GRA, Gombe where he carted away his car and other property.

DSP Malum said the suspect was arrested by the police while attempting to sell the car in Jos, Plateau State, adding that three mobile phones, a military ID card and personal belongings of the stolen vehicle’s owner were recovered from the suspect.

In another development, the police spokesperson said one Lucas Jones, 41, a staff of Federal University Kashere, Gombe was arrested in possession of item that he failed to give satisfactory account on during stop and search operation by the Counter Terrorism Unit of the command.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect carted away the items which include a Peugeot car, two sets of air conditioners, a set of computer and electric cables, from the ICT centre of the university,” DSP Malum said.

All the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution after investigation, the statement added.
