Man, 46, docked for alleged N1.8m fraud

A 46-year-old man, Oluyemi Olusegun, has been docked before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court for allegedly defrauding a bank of N1.8 million. A 46-year-old man, Oluyemi Olusegun, has been docked before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court for allegedly defrauding a bank of N1.8 million. Police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court yesterday that Olusegun committed the offence sometime in January 2019 in Ilupeju-Ekiti, Oye local government, Ekiti State.

According to Akinwale, the defendant borrowed money from Albatross Ventures, a microfinance bank, through the complainant, Miss Mercy Adebayo, who was described as the manager of the bank.

The prosecutor said the accused person disappeared after collecting the money and it took the concerted efforts of police detectives to fish him out.

The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

Olusegun pleaded not guilty to the charge against him. His counsel, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise he would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties, one of who must be a civil servant, in like sum. Adegboye adjourned the case till February 3, 2020 for hearing.
