A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Tuesday ordered the remand of one Mutiu Arowolo (50) for allegedly defiled and impregnated a 13-year-old girl.
Arowolo, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of defilement and unlawful penetration. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, ordered his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Service in Badagry, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The chief magistrate then adjourned the case until September 24, for mention. (NAN)
Earlier, the police prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in May at the Sawmill, Ibereko area of Badagry, Lagos. Ekpo said the defendant allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the 13-year-old girl, which resulted in an unwanted pregnancy.
He said the defendant had reportedly warned the girl not to tell her parents, but she informed them after the pregnancy started to show.
The offenses, Ekpo said, contravened the provisions of Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
