A 50-year-old man, Chinedu Enyeobi, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N3.8 million under false pretences.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February 2022 at Abaranje in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
The prosecutor said that the defendant obtained N3.85 million from one Mrs Nnedinma Igbonwelundu on false pretences of securing a loan from her.

Ajayi added that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 315 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 315 stipulates 15 years’ imprisonment for obtaining by false pretences, while stealing is punishable with three years’ jail term.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until Dec. 19 for mention. (NAN)
