A Katsina Senior Magistrate court has remanded one Bala Umaru, 50, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 12-year-old daughter of his neighbour.

The accused, a resident of Unguwar Kashe Nera Quarters, Dutsin-ma Local Government Area of Katsina State, was said to have lured the girl into his room and raped her.

The action is said to be contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code Law as being charged by the police.

The police prosecuting officer, ASP Sani Sule, told the court that one Audu Isyaku, who is the father of the victim, reported the case at Dutsin-ma police station on October 19 which led to the arrest.

He said Isyaku and Umaru reside  in the same house at Dutsin-ma.

Upon his arrest and subsequent interrogation, Umaru confessed to have had carnal knowledge of the victim five times at different occasions, the ASP told the court.

He then sought for adjournment of the case to enable the police carry out more investigation.

The presiding magistrate, Fadila Dikko, granted the request and adjourned the case to January 2, 2020 for mention and asked the accused to be remanded in a correctional facility.
