A chief magistrate court sitting in Kano has remanded a 55-year-old man, Musa Suleiman, alleged to have had unlawful carnal knowledge of his 16-year-old daughter.

Suleiman, who resides at Fagge Quarters Kano, is being tried for incest and rape.

The chief magistrate, Mr Muhammad Jibril, on Friday ordered that Suleiman be remanded at the correctional facility pending legal advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions and thereafter adjourned the case until November 4 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that one Aisha Hamisu of the same address reported the case at the Kano Hisbah Board on October 7.

Lale told the court that the complainant, who is the mother of the girl, reported that the girl’s father had been forcefully having sexual intercourse with the 16-year-old for the past seven years.

According to the prosecutor, Aisha also accused the defendant of indecent sexual assault on his other daughter, who is seven years old, by inserting his finger into her private part.

Lale said that the defendant had told the children not to tell their mother.

He said the offences contravene sections 390 and 283 of the Penal Code.

Suleiman, however, denied committing the offences. (NAN)
