Man, 61, found with 2.3g of cocaine jailed 2 years

Justice Muhammad Nasir Yunusa of the Federal High Court in Kano State has convicted and sentenced one Okey Okosa (61) for being in possession of 2.3 grams of cocaine.

Okasa pleaded guilty to the one-count charge preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

His lawyer, Charles Asoquos pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy, saying the convict got the cocaine for his personal use and not for sale to other end-users.

He told the court that his client, in addition to being a first-time offender, was remorseful and had also promised not to indulge in illicit drugs again.

He said the convict had dependents including an aged mother.

The lawyer said Mr Ososa was influenced by motor park touts popularly known as ‘Agberos’ for his drug consumption habits.

Prosecution counsel, Aminu Muhammad, drew the attention of the court to the fact that cocaine is not like cannabis sativa and therefore the punishment should be more severe.

The trial judge sentenced him to two years imprisonment without a fine option
