The Osun State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 67-year-old man, Yekin Salawudeen before Osogbo Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hiace Hummer jeep belonging to the Osun State Ministry of Justice. The vehicle worth N7 million.
Yekin was arraigned along with a 27-year-old accomplice, Hammed Salawudeen and another suspect, Sarafa Adeyemo on two count charges of stealing and attempted theft.
The police prosecutor, Mr Duro Adekunle told the court that the accused persons on July 23, 2017, at Church street, Oke-Onitea, Osogbo stole the vehicle.
The prosecutor said the offences committed by the accused persons contravened and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria 2002.
He added that their offences also contravened Section 383 (1) and punishable under section 390 (9) (10a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty of the offences preferred against them and sought for bail, though they did not have counsel.
The presiding judge, Magistrate Fatimah Sodomade, granted them bail of the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case to September 25, 2017 for mention.
