Man accused of attempting to exhume relative’s corpse

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 57-year-old man, Olubunmi Olupitan, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly attempting to exhume a relative’s corpse.

Olupitan, whose address was not provided, was charged with misconduct regarding a corpse, threatening violence and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February at Iwo Road, Ibadan. He alleged that the defendant attempted to exhume the corpse of one late Omolayo Olupitan, his relative.

The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until April 28 for hearing. (NAN)
