Man accused of damaging economic trees in Ekiti

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned a man, Adebayo Sola (54), at the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged felony and threat to life.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, on March 15, at Igbara-Odo Ekiti, in Ilawe-Ekiti Magisterial District, maliciously damaged cocoa and orange trees.

Inspector Oriyomi said the defendants and others at large, on the same date, time and place, threatened violence against one Ojo Ojurongbe Alfred.

The prosecutor added that the offences were punishable under Sections 421, 69, 345(1), of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant his client bail, the request Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till June 27, for hearing.
