Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 41-year-old man, identified as Oghenewogaga Emmanuel, for allegedly defiling two minors in Delta State.
The suspect allegedly defiled the minors, aged 12 and 13, in the Agbarho community of Delta State.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, stated that upon receiving information regarding the incident, the commissioner ordered the DPO of the area to investigate the matter and apprehend the suspect.
He confirmed that the suspect had carnal knowledge of the two underage girls at his residence on the same day.
According to Edafe, under the law, it is irrelevant whether the victims consented or not, as they are minors and cannot legally give consent.
In a video interview with the command’s spokesperson, the suspect confessed to the act.
He admitted to having slept with the 13-year-old twice in the past but claimed he only had carnal knowledge of the 12-year-old once.
Expressing a late sense of remorse, he added: “What I did is very bad. I wouldn’t be happy if someone did that to my 19-year-old daughter when she was 12.”
The command’s spokesperson assured the public that the suspect would be charged to court for defilement as soon as investigations are concluded.
