The police in Kano State have arrested a suspected fraudster, who specialises in generating fake alert to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspect, Sunusi Aminu of Kofar Nassarawa Quarters, was also accused of presenting himself as a younger brother to a renowned Kano-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dr. Abdallah Usman Gadon Kaya in order to earn public trust and make purchases only to send fake alerts to unsuspecting shop owners.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect took advantage of his physical resemblance with the revered Sheikh to dubiously collect goods worth over N2 million.
Kiyawa stated that after his arrest, a total of 20 people lodged complaints against him, alleging how he deceived, defrauded, and went away with their valuables.
