A Kaduna magistrates’ court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 37-year-old man, Promise Richard, in a correctional facility over an argument on football that turned violent at a viewing centre in Kaduna.
He was charged for murder.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.
He directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case to June 19 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 21 at a viewing centre in Narayi High Cost, Kaduna.
Leo alleged that the defendant unlawfully caused the death of a 32-year-old man by stabbing him on his neck.
The prosecutor stated that the defendant and the deceased had an argument following a football match, and in the process, the defendant ran out, got a broken bottle and stabbed the deceased with it.
Leo said the deceased was rushed to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna, where he was confirmed dead.
According to Leo, the offence contravened Section 190 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. (NAN)
