A 54-year-old man. identified as Edward Ngozi Odega, has been arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command for allegedly sexually abusing his three daughters, aged 13, 15, and 24, for several years.

He was also alleged to have sexually abused his daughters’ friends who paid them visits at home.

The suspect, who hails from Aniocha Local Government Area of the state, was alleged to have started sleeping with his first daughter, now 24, when she was 12 years old, before beginning to abuse her younger sisters.

Luck reportedly ran out for the suspect when one of his daughters, whom he had repeatedly sexually abused, confided in her friend.

This occurred after the Divisional Police Officer of Ogborikoko Division, CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, encouraged pupils to speak up if they were abused or molested during an outreach programme at their school.

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the suspect was arrested following his daughter’s confession.

He explained that after the female officer encouraged pupils in the school to speak up or talk to someone when they were defiled, molested, or abused, one of the suspect’s daughters opened up about his crime to her friend.

“After the outreach, one of the girls, aged 13, started crying every day in school, and this prompted her friend to inquire what the issue was. She then confided in her that her father has been abusing her,” Edafe narrated.

“Her friend also claimed that her father also did the same to her, hence she stopped visiting her home again,” he said.

Edafe alleged that the suspect had been sleeping with all three of his daughters, aged 13, 15, and 24.

He alleged that the suspect did not only sleep with his daughters but also his daughters’ friends who visited them.

Speaking with the police in a video, the suspect, who claimed to have been sleeping with his daughters for the last seven years, blamed it on the devil.

“I don’t really know what came over me, it is the devil’s work. I have three daughters and I have slept with all of them; the last born is 13, going to 14 now,” he confessed.

“I didn’t force them; I only told them I wanted to sleep with them,” he added.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old daughter told the police that her father started sexually abusing her when she was in Primary Six at the age of 12.

“I didn’t tell anybody because I was shy, and it is an abomination to say such a thing out to people,” she said.

“I only got to know that he did the same to my siblings after one of them confided in her friend,” she said.

Edafe said the suspect would be charged to court.
