Man accused of stealing POS machines with over N18m credit

A 25-year-old man, James Akomolafe, was on Wednesday arraigned before Magistrate L. A. Owolabi of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing several Moniepoint POS machines containing large sums of money belonging to different owners.

James, whose address was not provided, is facing a six-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant and others now at large committed the offences between June and August 2025 at various locations in Ikorodu and Oyingbo, Lagos State.

The prosecutor said that the defendant on Aug. 15 allegedly stole a POS machine loaded with N2.3 million, the property of Obinna Donatus.  (NAN)

She added that on Aug. 24, he allegedly stole another POS machine containing N1.8 million, belonging to Igwe Monday.

Ikhayere said that the defendant, on Aug. 25, at about 10:38 a.m., stole a Moniepoint POS machine containing N4.3 million, the property of one Nwodidi Ignatus.

The prosecutor further said that the defendant, on June 3, at Apapa Road, Oyingbo Market, allegedly stole a POS machine containing N8.5 million, belonging to Okorie Michael, and on August 29, another POS with N1.3 million, the property of Chibueze Odon.

Owolabi ordered that the defendant should be remanded pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and adjourned the case until December 1, for mention. (NAN)
