A 32-year-old man, Segun Bamidele, on Monday, pleaded guilty to dealing in cannabis sativa before a Federal High Court in Ibadan.
Bamidele pleaded guilty when the one-count charge of unlawful dealing in 400 grammes of cannabis sativa was read to him.
The judge, Justice Nkeonye Maha, ordered the defendant to be remanded in Agodi correctional facility and adjourned the matter until Sept. 22 for review of facts and sentencing.
Earlier, Mr Daniel Otunla, counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 19, at Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Otunla said that operatives of the NDLEA acted on intelligence reports that Bamidele was in possession of an unspecified quantity of illicit substance.
He said that the defendant was subsequently arrested in possession of a bag in which 400 grammes of cannabis was concealed.
According to the prosecuting counsel, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 11 (C) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. (NAN)
