The police in Ogun State yesterday said a 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death.

The suspect, Shina Kasali, who lives in Abosule area of Agbado in Ifo Local Government  Area was arrested on Saturday following a report by one of the couple’s neighbours at Agbado Divisional headquarters.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the complainant reported that the suspect and his wife, Sofiat, had a disagreement when the deceased wanted to go out to fetch water but the husband resisted.

Abimbola quoted the neighbour to have stated further that the argument led to a scuffle between the two, consequent upon which the suspect beat the deceased to coma.  He added that the deceased later gave up on the way to the hospital.

Upon the suspect’s arrest and interrogation, he was said to have accused the deceased of disrespecting him after he lost his job. The suspect, who didn’t confess to the crime, reportedly said his wife died while they were fighting, police said, adding that the corpse has been deposited at Ifo General Hospital morgue for post mortem.
