The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 35-year-old Aliyu Yarima for allegedly drugging and raping a 16-year-old girl.
The disclosure was made by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdulkarim Dungus, in a statement issued to journalists in Damaturu.
He stated that the command recorded the case as an instance of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) involving sexual assault and substance abuse.
“Police operatives of the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Aliyu Yarima, a resident of Potiskum Local Government Area, following a distress report,” Dungus said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly lured the victim, a resident of Babbangida town, and gave her a soft drink mixed with suspected illicit drugs, which rendered her unconscious. The suspect then conveyed the victim in his vehicle to his residence in Babbangida, where the assault took place.
Dungus added that, “As a result of the assault, the victim sustained serious internal injuries. She was unable to report the incident immediately until her health condition deteriorated.”
He said upon receiving the report, police operatives rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Babbangida, for a medical examination, where the assault was medically confirmed.
The police spokesman said the state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has directed an immediate, thorough, and discreet investigation into the case.
