A 30-year-old man, Hammed Oyeleke, on Wednesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly digging up a woman’s grave to remove her skull.

Oyeleke, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges bordering on offering indignity to a human corpse. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 24, at about 1 am at Amuloko, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant improperly interfered with and offered indignity to the corpse of one Mrs. Anifat Moshood.

Lawal further alleged that the defendant dug up the deceased’s grave to exhume her body and remove her skull.

He said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 242(1)(b) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr. Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until February 4, for hearing. (NAN)
