An Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a man for allegedly hiring an assassin to kill his wife’s lover, whom she met on social media.

The Lagos State Police Command charged the defendant, Sunday Sojunu (35), his wife, Toyin (31), and an alleged accomplice, Dare Sampson (32), with murder.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendants face a three-count charge bordering on the alleged murder of a 45-year-old man, Mr. Ayoola Bello, in the Ikorodu area of the state.

NAN further reports that while the charges were read before the court, the pleas of the defendants were not taken.

Magistrate Mrs. O.O. Adeosun ordered that the male defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Center, while the female defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility pending legal advice.

The court directed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice and adjourned the case until Jan. 21, 2026.

In the charge, the prosecutor, ASP Kehinde Olatunde, alleged that the defendants were apprehended on Dec. 8 for their roles in the crime.

He said, “The man’s wife, Toyin, a TikTok content creator, met the deceased, Mr. Ayoola Bello, on the social media platform. Both became friends and were eager to meet physically.

“On Sept. 15, while pretending to her husband that she was traveling to Cotonou, Benin Republic, Toyin traveled instead to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to visit the deceased. She spent two days with him at an undisclosed hotel.

“Thereafter, the couple allegedly fell critically ill and could not find a remedy for their unabated ailment, which was said to have been caused by the wife’s infidelity. She later openly confessed to her husband that she had cheated on him and sought forgiveness, thinking it would alleviate their illness.”

The prosecutor said the husband then pressured his wife to lure the deceased to their house in Ikorodu.

“Before then, the husband had hired the accomplice—a notorious cultist and hired killer who has been on the police wanted list for some time—to assist him in killing the deceased.

“They held the man in captivity and collected a N200,000 ransom from his family before tying his hands and legs and torturing him. They forced him to drink Sniper, which led to his death.

“His limbs were decimated and packed into sacks separate from the torso, which were then transported via motorbike to Adamo Junction, where the body parts were dumped into the river,” he said.

The offences, the prosecutor stated, contravene Sections 165, 222, and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
