A middle-aged man identified as Ibrahim Husseini has allegedly murdered his cousin, Hassan, in the Evbarue community of Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Edo State.

The suspect and the deceased, both indigenes of Katsina State, had recently relocated to Edo State in search of better economic opportunities.

While Hassan worked as a commercial motorcyclist in Evbarue, Husseini was engaged in menial labor.

Investigations revealed that the duo had a quarrel in Katsina State in late 2025. Although they reportedly resolved the conflict before traveling to Edo together, the suspect allegedly continued to harbor a grudge.

A resident said on the fateful day of the incident, the suspect reportedly asked the deceased to convey him to a farm road on his motorcycle, under the pretext of gathering herbs to treat a stomach upset.

Unaware of the danger, Hassan took him to the location. Upon arrival, the suspect reportedly drew a cutlass and beheaded him. He then allegedly stole the deceased’s mobile phone and ₦36,000 in cash before fleeing the scene, the resident said.

The deceased was declared missing by his associates after he failed to return home. However, the suspect was eventually apprehended by operatives of the Edo State Security Corps following an undercover operation.

The leader of the Arewa community in the area, Musa Suleiman, condemned the killing and appealed to security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation to get to the root of the matter.

Confirming the incident, the Corps Deputy Commander, Richard Balogun, said the suspect is in custody.

He added that the deceased’s mobile phone and the cutlass used in the murder have been recovered by the security team.
