Man allegedly kills father’s stepmother in Jos
A 20-year-old, Ibrahim Mutari, has allegedly killed his father’s 70-year-old stepmother, Hauwa Abubakar, in the Yanbula community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Daily Trust reports that residents of the community and personnel from the Laranto Police Division converged on the deceased’s residence following the attack, which reportedly occurred around 3pm.
Abubakar Shuaibu, the husband of the deceased, condemned the killing, describing the incident as cruel and inhumane.
He accused Ibrahim of attacking, strangling, and stabbing his wife with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Ummi Ahmed, a daughter of the deceased, also accused Ibrahim of the murder.
She alleged that prior to the killing, the suspect had vowed to take revenge following a fight last year with her elder brother, Musa, during which Ibrahim was stabbed.
“Ibrahim and our brother Musa fought last year, and in the process, Musa stabbed him in the stomach. He was rushed to the hospital,” Ummi said. “While in the hospital, Ibrahim vowed to take revenge on either the deceased’s children or their mother, and today he has actualized his threat. One of the nurses even warned us to be cautious, saying his utterances were dangerous.”
Ummi further explained that her mother had served as Ibrahim’s primary caregiver while he was hospitalized. “The deceased took care of him until he was discharged. Despite her kindness, he went ahead and killed her,” she added.
Investigations revealed a deep family bond prior to the tragedy; the suspect’s father had been raised by the deceased after his own mother died when he was a child. To reciprocate her care, the suspect’s father had taken her into his home and cared for her as his own mother until his death.
The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Alabo Alfred, was yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident as of the time of this report.
