Man allegedly stabs 70-year-old grandfather to death in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his 70-year-old grandfather to death in Sabon Kariya village, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Bauchi.

According to him, the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ganjuwa, on May 17, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m.

Habib said a 58-year-old resident of Sabon Kariya village informed the police that at about 4:30 p.m. on the same day, the suspect, Bashar Aliyu, allegedly stabbed his grandfather, Ibrahim Maisaje, with a knife inside the victim’s room.

He said police operatives immediately visited the scene, evacuated the corpse and took it to the General Hospital, Kafin Madaki, where a medical doctor confirmed the victim dead.

The police spokesman added that the suspect was promptly arrested and preliminary investigations had commenced.

“No exhibit was recovered at the scene. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet and thorough investigation,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident and assured the public that justice would be pursued in accordance with the law.

He also urged residents to embrace peaceful conflict resolution and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies to prevent similar tragedies.
